  • Keep coming back to Mariah Carey’s Caution. She really made a great album for 40-something women who have seen some shit and want no more of it. And it slaps, as the kids say.

  • I’m a scaredy-cat, so I’ve gotta watch Black Mirror the same way I watch BBC’s Luther. In the daytime with ALL the lights on.

  • My Favorite Podcast App

I’ve been looking for a better pod catching app than Podcast Addict. It’s not the prettiest app ever, but there’s nothing else like it on Android or iOS.

Podcast Addict has an awesome search function, and many different ways to add new podcasts, including premium, password-protected ones. Wish there was an iOS version.

  • Spider-thoughts

Just some thoughts I have that won’t go away after seeing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This is basically me ranting about media again. Light Spoilers.

  • A Midwinter’s Tale

This weekend I watched ‘A Midwinter’s Tale’, the holiday special for the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. I’ve never loved the main characters of most shows but OMG this little girl is so selfish! Sabrina uses magic on Harvey and his family so many times without their consent. She doesn’t listen to her own family when they give her good advice. She never learns any lessons from her actions. She’s the reason that Baby Letitia isn’t safe in the Spellman house. I hope it bites her in the butt someday soon. But this show refuses to make her feel the consequences of her deeds.

Just give me more Ambrose and Prudence. Sabrina is annoying.

  • I told people on social media that I was bored by music made by men (especially R&B). Then the universe dropped some projects that made me think I spoke too soon. And here’s another exception to the rule in Jvck James from the UK.

  • Let's Stop Sleeping on Captain Marvel

The second Captain Marvel trailer is lowkey more interesting than the teaser for Avengers: Endgame. We’re given lots more to speculate on in this trailer. Plus, I just love origin stories. I like getting to know new characters, especially ones from the cosmic side of Marvel Comics.

  • Besides, it’s time that Disney/Marvel realize they don’t need RDJ as much as he needs them. The playing field may have been a bit more level in 2008, but Marvel legitimized old dude way more than he ever did for them.

  • The more trailer breakdowns I watch, the more I think that the Russos will let Steve die to save the world and find some BS way to save T*ny. I can’t deal with Steve going for good if the other guy doesn’t go too.

  • Forgot to post on Saturday. But I will say that the fake trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home reflect what’s wrong with the MCU fandom.

They strip out the rich diversity that made S-M: Homecoming so great.

  • Endgame IG

So the trailer for Avengers 4 dropped today. After all the secrecy surrounding the name, we find out it’s called Avengers: Endgame. And the meh’s just keep coming. From Tony’s too-long monologue at the beginning to the ‘reveal’ of Hawkeye in the Ronin costume, very few of the characters shown were people I was worried about after watching Infinity War. We only get a brief glimpse of Thor and the Steve scenes we get are hampered by Scarlett Johanssen’s wooden acting.

Trailer 2 has got to be better than this. At least give us something to speculate about!

  • “If you take off your industry prospector monocle and stop worrying about the viability or vitality of the music he makes, the Roots’ Black Thought is still what he’s always been: a virtuoso, a joy to listen to, able to dive headlong into dense worlds and drag you with him.”

I wish there were as many podcasts/sites for The Inheritance and Broken Earth Trilogies as there are for HP.

  • New Blog, Who Dis?

I left LiveJournal for Tumblr/Twitter. Now I guess I’m leaving Tumblr for Wordpress/Micro.blog and Twitter for Mastodon.

I’m a writer and a podcaster, not a photographer or gif-maker, etc. so I’m not as hurt by Tumblr’s descent as other people. The site was never very accessible for people with impaired vision or hearing.

Tumblr was never my online home. (Also, I’m an adult. Isn’t all of the content that I post or re-blog ‘adult content’?) That doesn’t mean that those who spent much of their online lives on Tumblr aren’t valid. It sucks that they have to scramble and rebuild their online community yet again for another site.

Yes, this is indirectly related to SESTA, and directly related to the app being removed from Apple’s App Store (capitalism!) due to child p_rn. This is a wildly inefficient way to get rid of child p_rn by eliminating p_rn altogether. It also ignores the pervasive use of social media sites like Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit for organizing and recruitment by white supremacists who abuse marginalized groups.

All this to say, I guess I’m here now. Hopefully, the decline of these other social sites will encourage me to post here regularly. We’ll see.
