I left LiveJournal for Tumblr/Twitter. Now I guess I’m leaving Tumblr for Wordpress/Micro.blog and Twitter for Mastodon.
I’m a writer and a podcaster, not a photographer or gif-maker, etc. so I’m not as hurt by Tumblr’s descent as other people. The site was never very accessible for people with impaired vision or hearing.
Tumblr was never my online home. (Also, I’m an adult. Isn’t all of the content that I post or re-blog ‘adult content’?) That doesn’t mean that those who spent much of their online lives on Tumblr aren’t valid. It sucks that they have to scramble and rebuild their online community yet again for another site.
Yes, this is indirectly related to SESTA, and directly related to the app being removed from Apple’s App Store (capitalism!) due to child p_rn. This is a wildly inefficient way to get rid of child p_rn by eliminating p_rn altogether. It also ignores the pervasive use of social media sites like Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit for organizing and recruitment by white supremacists who abuse marginalized groups.
All this to say, I guess I’m here now. Hopefully, the decline of these other social sites will encourage me to post here regularly. We’ll see.
